Privacy policy – Nzbettingtips

Readers of betting tips on this site open no account, make no deposit and place no bet, so little personal information is gathered. What there is falls under the Privacy Act 2020 and its information privacy principles (section 22).

The responsible agency

Whoever runs Nzbettingtips is the agency responsible for the personal information collected. Name, address and e-mail address are at bettingtipsnz.com, and all questions about personal information go the same way.

Information collected

Every page request creates a server log entry: IP address, date and time, the address requested, data volume, referring page and browser type. Logs exist for security and to spot abuse, and after 90 days they are deleted or cut back so that no person can be identified. A message to the editors brings a name, an e-mail address and the message text, used only to reply. No payment details or identity documents are held, since there are no accounts, deposits or bets.

Purposes and principles

Collection serves lawful purposes tied to the site: keeping it running and secure, answering messages and, after a banner choice, measuring the audience (IPP 1). The person is informed of what is collected and why (IPP 3) and the information is used for those purposes only (IPP 10). The site makes no automated decisions and builds no profiles.

Service providers and transfers abroad

Selling information is not done. It reaches the hosting provider, the content delivery provider and the e-mail handler, and public authorities when the law demands. If a provider stores data outside New Zealand, disclosure takes place only where the recipient has comparable safeguards or the person has been told and agrees, in line with IPP 12.

Security and retention

Reasonable safeguards protect information from loss and misuse (IPP 5). Retention is limited by purpose (IPP 9): server logs for 90 days at most, correspondence until the matter is closed plus the time needed for any claims. A notifiable privacy breach, one that has caused or is likely to cause serious harm, is reported to the Privacy Commissioner and the people concerned.

Access and correction

Each person may request the information held about them (IPP 6) and ask for it to be corrected (IPP 7). The answer comes as soon as reasonably practicable and within 20 working days of the request at the latest (section 40).

Complaints

A person who thinks their privacy has been breached may complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner.
