Cookie policy – Nzbettingtips

Reading betting tips does not call for much technology, and only a handful of cookies are used for it. The following sets out those tools, why they are there and how they can be turned down or changed. A cookie is a small text file saved by a browser; local and session storage and counting pixels work along similar lines.

Which law applies

Wherever cookies and comparable tools gather personal information, the Privacy Act 2020 governs through the information privacy principles in section 22. Information is collected for a lawful purpose linked to running the site (IPP 1), and the person concerned learns what is collected and why (IPP 3). Security safeguards must be reasonable (IPP 5), retention must be no longer than needed (IPP 9), and disclosure outside New Zealand is allowed only under IPP 12. A banner choice stays open to change.

Necessary files

A few files are needed for the site to function: they maintain a session, balance server load, protect forms from abuse and record the cookie choice. No separate choice is offered for them. Session files disappear when the browser closes; the saved choice is retained for twelve months at most.

Functional and analytics files

Remembering display preferences, such as the last odds table opened, is the work of functional files. Analytics files count page views and reveal which tips articles are read. Both groups wait until the banner has been answered. IP addresses are truncated before analysis, and cross-site behavioural profiles are not built.

Files from other services

Videos, maps and other embeds may set files of their own, in which case the outside provider’s privacy rules also apply and any objection goes to that provider. Advertising cookies for personalised ads are not set by Nzbettingtips unless the banner clearly records a choice.

The "Cookie settings" link in the footer reopens the choice whenever wanted; withdrawal takes effect for the future. Browsers separately let cookies be blocked and removed. If necessary files are deleted, the banner returns and some functions may briefly stop working.

Complaints

A complaint about how personal information is handled goes to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner. More detail is in the privacy policy.
